Black Lives Matter

We stand in solidarity with black people around the world.  And we want to do more to help, but we’re not sure how.

We’ve spoken with some of our African-Canadian teammates and they’ve told us of how they have come to accept a fear, even here in Canada, that people of European descent just don’t experience.

This has to stop.

If you have some ideas, please share them in the comments below.  One of the best things I've heard in the last several months is to listen and learn.  We are all ears.

  • Racism is a white person’s problem; just because one is not a white supremacist does not mean one has not been tainted by racism. We white people have a choice: persist in our racism or recognize our white privilege and become anti-racists. If this doesn’t make sense to you, Debbie Irving’s book, “Waking Up White” is a good place to start.

  • I have no clue about the racial makeup of your staff/crew, but I’d encourage you to preferentially hire more African-Canadian staff, and ask them what they need to create a safe workspace.

  • This is a really hard topic, and I am doing my best to learn how to be as anti racist as I can be. I am reading some good books on the subject, in the hopes of learning how to spot policies and practices that promote racial inequities, and combat them. Thanks for making the effort and for sharing about this crucial topic!
