could you make some bigger virgin cotton bags, i could take to the grocery store when buying produce? i can find from other vendors but trust you don't use chemicals to process and trust your packaging. thank you!

And also just biodegradable plastic and paper products to be used for shipping packaging (some companies of course already do this, but it needs to be wider spread)...replacing peanuts and bubble wrap. Also bags for packaging in stores for all types of products that are biodegradable but can be seen through. Helping stores decide when to use just paper and when a plant based plastic (with visibility and probably higher cost) would be the best choice

Create concentrates (gel or powdered) in biodegradable packaging for all of the common plastic contained household items: shampoo, hand soap, conditioner, clothes washing (this already exists for the soap but not always for other things added to laundry), other cleaners too. Also you could sell essential oils to add to your products (in glass containers). Sell glass bottles to dispense all of the above too

I love Becky's idea about a plastic-free replacement for kitchen trash-can liners that will keep the trash can clean and keep the garbage contained so it doesn't blow around the neighborhood when the garbage cans are emptied on trash day. Thank you! You are "giving back" just by developing plastic-free replacements for plastic products and making them available to consumers. Keep up the good work, and I have no doubt you will soon be profitable enough to "give back" in monetary ways!

Reusable cotton swabs. And paper towel. Love the fact you guys are Canadian! Thank you.

I, too, know I have missed the deadline but would like to put something out there for your consideration. We are trying to figure out what to put in waste baskets instead of plastic bags - especially the kitchen waste basket, to keep it clean and keep all the garbage together when we put it into the trash can.
We compost so we don't have many wet items, but there are greasy things and occasionally wet items put into the waste basket. I know of no product out there that will conform to a waste basket and keep it from getting dirty each week while keeping the trash together.
Many people have mentioned to me that they are saving grocery plastic bags to have in the future when these bags are no longer allowed. Are there other choices out there?

I know I have missed the contest deadline but I would still like to suggest an idea. As much as I love your wax bags and wraps they do not help me when I want to heat a food in the microwave. Aluminum foil can't be used either. The only thing that works is a glass lid but I don't have lids to fit all my microwaveable dishes which leaves me with no choice but plastic wrap. What about thin silicone sheets that could lay on top of dishes to prevent spattering? Seems like they would be easy and cheap to make and sell? Just a suggestion...

I have been buying products like yours trying to eliminate single use plastics from my life. I find it frustrating and inefficient that I have to go directly to so many individual sellers mostly on Instagram, which is a lot of work, to do this. Most people don’t have the time and energy to do this. There needs to be a distributor that sells all of these great products and even better, gets them in local stores. That is my idea. I don’t need to win a prize but I think we could accomplish a lot if this could happen. I know that single use water is sold in cardboard cartons and that the packaging is easier to send in larger quantities than plastic bottles. Unfortunately there are lots of instances where we find ourselves somewhere without tap water and only single use plastic bottles are offered. I also buy the perfume free laundry detergent in the dissolvable packets from dropps.com. My floss is eco dent and comes in a cardboard box and is not plastic. The floss and natural cellulose sponges are the only plastic alternatives I have been able to find in local stores. I buy other eco products.I would love to buy a high quality shampoo and conditioner in a cardboard carton(like an old milk carton). There should be a line of women’s makeup that comes in cardboard containers. This should all be easily accessible. I don't think glass is a sustainable package either. Ive heard silicone in the form needed to make glass is in shortage. I like the idea of the toothpaste in chewable tablets but think it should come in something other than glass or a tube. When I saw the water at a food truck being sold in the cardboard carton I couldn’t understand why this hasn’t replaced the water in plastic bottles every where. This is probably too far out of your realm but eventually I hope grocery food packaging will get away from plastics. I wish your wax wraps were clear so I could see my food. I appreciate what you are doing.

Thanks, Claire Wiley

A few items that are used everyday - bottles - milk, soda, water;  food packaging, laundry detergent packaging,  Spatulas, toothpaste containers, deodorant containers, disposable razors, plastic cups, e.g. Solo cups, plastic plates, pens, pitchers,

Packaging for large manufacturers - soap, napkins, toile paper, paper towels, etc.

I have seen laundry soap sheets that appear to be plastic-free but do not ship to Canada...i LOVE that your products are made in Canada so that would be my first pick.

Also, some travel carry-out containers that people can bring with them to pick up food (e.g. from a foodcourt), instead of styrofoam.

Biodegradable stickers for fruit and veggies?

Basically all food wrappings for commercial selling...

Otherwise, please set up shop in Calgary so that one can shop for bulk items like shampoo, conditioner, cleaning products with their own refillable glass jars. It's working in the UK and if there's a way I can be a part of that movement I am ALL over it.

I struggle to find strong trash bags that are either NOT plastic or compostable. The compostable ones are too weak and won’t hold a load of garbage. The plastic ones are, well, ask the dolphins and the whales and other sea creatures!

I LOVE the Beeswax wraps...they hold the other half of an avocado for three days without turning brown. Eventually they have to be replaced after 4 months of folding washing refolding. When you send me more please include business card (w contact) as i usually give two or three of them away..to educate others.

Dishwasher pods! Some kind of laundry soap or bathroom type cleaner either in a bar for easier shipping or in single use wax pods like the dish soap would be super cool. As someone who is newly celiac with sensitive skin, skin care stuff like moisturizers or moisturizing melts for baths would be great.

I have three idea's...
1.Recycled Towels (Towels made from second hand cloth/towels).
2.Travel straw (metal straw that folds up to be small, light and easy to travel with).
3.Etee notebook that is biodegradable and has seeds in it (so you can plant it and let your thoughts sprout).

glass tupperware with sections for bringing food to school for lunch. I think glass would be a better alternative to stainless steel because you can see the contents, it is microwavable, and when it gets old after a few years, or broken, it is fully recyclable!

Produce bag, I love the wax sheets but you can’t see what the contents are. How about a bread box?!

Patricia (Trish) West

Wonder if there could be some means of identifying what’s under the beeswax wraps... maybe an erasable / rewriteable tag? I’d love a see-thru window, but that would defeat the purpose unless it was something other than plastic.

I would like to see more packed lunches plastic free. So many convenient foods are wrapped in plastic, like string cheese or single use yogurt cartons or plastic sandwich bags. I would like to see a reusable lunch bag, a cloth napkin, a sandwich tin, containers for snacks or fruit. My children's school started a zero garbage goal for the student's school lunches. This was the result of juice boxes making such a mess. They provided water or milk but the students had to use as little paper or plastic as possible. I think students would do this if encouraged. Maybe you could partner with the World Wildlife Fund to put a picture of an endangered animal on the lunch sack. They already have sandwich tins. One of WWF's scientific research projects discovered that bacteria were coming on plastic from beaches on Ecuador and landing on the Galapagos Islands, making animals sick. So they developed a waste management program to clean the beaches in Ecuador. If students knew that plastic trash was responsible for making endangered species sick, they might get behind using less plastic. Starting with lunches would be a big help. I was a children's bookseller for many years. As with any product for children, an adult has to buy it. So think about how you would market this. New year's resolution for using less plastic, back to school ? Don't expect schools to buy into your product but it would be cool to have a lesson plan about endangered species and how treating their environment with respect could help keep them alive.

I love bringing my own containers for bulk sections but have unfortunately broke a bottle or two on the journey. Maybe a clear more durable container that can easily be filled at the bulk store but not plastic. I love my Mason jars but want more durability, especially for bulk bathroom items. Also mouthwash tabs? Or bathroom items that can be made like your dish soap.

How about a natural reusable hair extractor for car carpets, upholstery. Lastly, any ideas for no plastic or refillable cleaners, stain removers for doggie oops . thanks!

Plastic bottles for pop, plastic containers for hand cream, plastic containers for shampoos and conditioners, and other plastic containers replace with glass containers that can be recycled or pay a deposit and when returned to the store your money is refunded and they return the glass containers to the manufacturer. Any plastic packaging for soaps, toilet paper, paper towels and etc use biodegradable packaging or cardboard boxes the you can break down and they can be recycled. I know there are ways to reduce packaging and recycle more, we just need to do more and find ways to make more packaging recycleable and biodegradable. Thank you and I hope with enough people on this something can be done in the near future.

-A powdered laundry detergent. There are some liquid options out there, but powdered seems to work a lot better, regardless of brand, in my machine.
-Garbage bags for standard kitchen bins (13 gallon, I think?). I've seen small biodegradable ones, but not larger ones and in my town we aren't permitted to just skip the bag and put it straight into the bin that goes to the curb to get picked up.
-Lids for the glass jars that come from the grocery store. Mason jars are great, but I'd love to also reuse jam/jelly jars, sauce jars, etc. However, the threads on these jars are different than standard mason jars so regular lids/tops don't work. And the plastic lining on tops from the store often soaks up flavors/scents, making them really hard to just clean/reuse on their own.

1. Affordable 100 % biodegradable/compostable diapers with non chemicals. Most of "biodegradable" diapers are not 100% biodegradable really. Also biodegradable/compostable diaper bin that is affordable. Most of them are either plastic or very expensive steel. Biodegradable liners already exist.
2. 100% Biodegradable/compostable or non-plastic recyclable top for glass containers/food storages.
3. 100% Biodegradable/compostable or non-plastic recycable Garbage bins for garbage collection
4. Laundry detergents with safe ingredients, refill in biodegradable containers. I see some products out there but not enough.
5. Same concept as #4 for haircare(including black hair type), skincare, makeup. There are not enough black hair products that are safe.

Biodegradable packaging for fresh meat. It would have to be washable in soap and hot water.

Laundry Detergent, Fabric Sofener,Windex, Spay & Wash -concentrate cubes like the dishwasher packets-so all we add is water-basically everything for the kitchen or laundry. Next we can move on to the kitchen-juices, etc. we use our own containers. that would save a ton on packaging.

So many great ideas already posted - every one is a winner!
I'd love a non-plastic hairbrush and comb set. I know consumables are the priority, but every morning I am bummed to grab ahold of that plastic brush.
Also needed: eye drops, fragrance-free body moisturizer, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, and hand soap.
Thank you!!

A reusable, not plastic device for holding dental floss. So something like the single use plastic flossers, but one that I could thread, floss, then rethread with new floss. Also, fluoride toothpaste or powder that comes in something other than a plastic tube.

I would like a toothpaste (or teeth cleaning compound) that has only natural products. I make one that is coconut oil, baking soda with a bit of oil of oregano or tea tree oil in it. You could also use a peppermint oil. I use 4 ounce jars for the stuff I make and scoop it out with a small spoon. At the end of the container i just use my toothbrush to get the last of it. I tried using tins but that didn't work as well. Play with it! 2 ounces coconut oil to 1 tablespoon of baking soda and a few drops of oil. You can also use bentonite clay but i never can find any. Making this product would save me some time.

I would like a smaller thermos to fit inside a lunchbox. Juice boxes are so popular, but use a lot of packaging that needs to be thrown away. A smaller thermos with a straw that could fit inside a lunchbox would help. A lot of the thermoses are too big to fit in a child's lunchbox.

I threw out all my Tupperware and now that I find out how much lead it contains I am really glad I did so. However, whenever I want to carry a pie, cake or plate of deviled eggs to a get-together, I don't have a good way to cover them to transport them. I love your wraps but they are not good on hot or gooey items or items that need to not have the top touched. What about a more solid container to transport these larger goodies? Also what about a safe freezer wrap perhaps by the roll for meats, or something else that would work for that purpose. I hate freezing meats in styrofoam and plastic, because it just adds toxins.

Sue Harrison (Home)

January 2, 2020
I would like to see more concentrated products (dish soap, dishwasher detergent and other cleaners) that we can just add water to and reuse the containers. In some parts of Canada it’s common to go to a store and refill your own jug for products. That would be great too. Also the stiffer bags that vegetables come in are not recyclable - couldn’t they be made of something earth friendly?

Marnie Vail

Lots of good ideas.
I see a re-usable and/or truly compostable (in home compost system) produce bag to replace the plastic bags and the plastic tubs that baby greens come in. The production of the bag/container needs to be local - ie: multiple local small facilities that support local economy and avoid transportation/pollution. The container needs to come from plants or other renewable substances which support/renew the local habitat/soil/wildlife. As regards all the ideas for containers for various"products" - how many "products" do we really need to be clean and healthy? I'm not sure I even agree with your idea of developing 20 new products...really?! Maybe you would serve the planet better to develop ideas for local use. And definitely stop producing stuff in China. Thanks for listening.

Julie

I put together my own but would love to see you design a great looking purse-type cooler bag with its own to-go containers that fit into it so people could inconspicuously it take into restaurants and not have to use the restaurant's boxes and containers for any leftovers. There could be several "Designer Prints", which I'd also be happy to contribute to the project!!

Biodegradable tights.
I think the root of the problem is lack of biodegradable materials on the massive scale. Create a substitute to current plastic tubs and jars for make-up and skincare and approach the manufacturers of the actual products to use your biodegradable packaging to use for all those lipsticks, mascaras, eyeshadows etc.

I'm thinking of two ideas:
1) a plastic-free replacement for potato chip and other snack food bags, that could be marketed to manufacturers of these products. I tried just not throwing out the bags for a couple/few months, but couldn't figure out what to do with them to upcycle/recycle them, and they just started piling up. I'd love to find a plastic-free alternative packaging material, so I don't have to feel guilty about the environment AND my waist line when I buy my favourite snack foods. :)

2) a plastic-free version of the disposable toothpick-floss combo tools people are using these days. I'm not sure if traditional dental floss was any better (still in plastic containers, and maybe the fiber is now also plastic?), but these little gizmos seem so wasteful, and leave plastic litter all over!

3) Oh, and maybe a plastic-free/biodegradable drink cup lid option that fast food retailers could use instead of the plastic lids they have now? I see these all over the ground when I'm walking from one place to another. There seems to be a move towards paper straws, but now we need the rest of the containers to go plastic-free! I know it's better to make your own food than to buy out, especially fast-food, but lots of us are still needing fast, convenient options for busy days, and I just wish the planet didn't have to pay the price for that.

4) Along the lines of your plastic-free lipbalm containers, maybe a plastic-free deodorant/antiperspirant? I currently buy NakedKittyNaturals (nakedkittynaturals.com) bergamot lime-scented deodorant (I love the scent and it's one of the few that I've found that isn't messy AND actually keeps me smelling good), and wonder if you could partner with them on some plastic-free packaging?

So, there are a few ideas...
I love that you're looking for more ways to replace plastic! Thank you, and please keep up the good work!

Washable grocery bag which has enough "body" to not flop over when being filled. Should have gusset on bottom (for flat bottom to hold items), benefit would be loops to secure bottles which could be pushed out of way when not needed. Important thing is washable yet easy to pack - There is nothing on the market with these 2 characteristics.

So I'm not a scientist, but it has always seemed like drier lint went to waste. I imagined that it might be used in paper production (seems like in the old days paper was mucho classier and pricey if it had cotton in it???). Could it be recycled that way? or another? Right now it's land fill filler.

A plastic free option to replace the dental flossers. I have switched to biodegradable dental floss but my boyfriend still uses flossers and I can't get him to switch because he likes the convenience of them. I would like to have pet poop waste bags that decompose when they are disposed. We purchase bags that are made from recyclable products but they are still plastic bags. When we walk our dog we use 2-4 of these bags each day and we need an alternative - especially given the frequent use of them. We want to keep our neighborhood clean and free of pet waste. It would be so great to do so while not adding to the plastic waste. Thanks!

My bathroom is full of plastic bottles. As a "middle-aged" woman, I use a moisturizer, a night cream , and eye cream and a toner daily. The products I use, from Beauty Counter and Kiehl's all tout their natural ingredients, but their packaging is terrible. I think you should consider partnering with a an organic cosmetics firm (of similar size and strategy as Etee) and come out with a line of cosmetics sustainably packaged and then market them jointly. Also, quality facial soaps are in short supply.

I have a very modest proposal, to further the attempt to keep existing plastic out of the landfill: a "transformation" kit; for the transformation of existing plastic containers. This could involve spiffy "everything touches everything else" labels for various products as well as some kind of orange-oil variation on "Goo Gone" - in a non-plastic container - and a non-disposible scraper or scrubber (or blueprint for a DIY repurposed-plastic one), to neutralize pre-loved plastic containers by removing their labels.

I know that you already recommend reusing old plastic dishsoap bottles for your concentrated dish soap, but this may make the proposition a bit "sexier" and far-reaching. (And it could be a fun and easy design project for you folks.) Gotta find a way to make use of more of the eeevil plastic that we're already stuck with it.

I would love to see (and sell) a plastic free kids bucket, shovel and spade for play at the beach. Additionally if it could be collapsible so it could fit in a beach bag.
Thanks! Lisa McCoy

Hand lotions, shampoo and conditioners should be able to be made the way the etee dish washing liquid is, as a concentrate dispensed in a compostable pod, to be mixed with water for day to day use.

And possibly the pod could be made of the same material as the food wraps in all these products.

A shopping bag that has compartments that seal for produce so shoppers don’t use all those bags to carry produce home. Once home, the produce can go right in the fridge

I buy ham and similar things at the butcher / deli in supermarket to avoid purchasing in a plastic container but even then they package it in thin plastic instead of paper. How about some sort of box / container I can provide them with (that they can put on a scale) ?

Can you guys open a physical location like the unboxed market in Toronto and start offering refill service ? This is what’s missing IMO ... people can bring their own containers for everything but it’s rare to find a place that’s convenient

Make your products in a fair trade country. Was utterly shocked to receive my "Beeswax" covers from China. Will not be buying from your company again. Very sad. Regardless of what you say, you cannot avoid unethical and cruel child and female labor practices.

Going to the pet store today, I noticed almost everything is plastic. Even items that are for animals that will chew it, potentially harming themselves like gerbils. We foster mother cats and kittens. It would be nice to have some non plastic options such as the wand on a kitty teaser and natural fibers used instead of polyester.

Interdental brushes.
Large biodegradable bin liners.
EFFECTIVE cleaning products, I have been disappointed with efficiency of supposedly eco-friendly cleaning products.
Biodegradable cling film. I like your food wrappers but they aren't great in the freezer.

How about a craft kit for people who would like to make their own reusable covers and bags.
We retired ladies, like to get together to do these kinds of things and often have left over fabric.
Kit could contain the bees wax, jojba oil, and a couple of cloths along with instructions. This would not be competition but a separate market niche which could help advertise the products you are selling which are ready for use.

I would love to see real toothpaste in some sort of recyclable container. Maybe a metal canister like shave cream. I dint really want to buy tooth powder or the other fluoride free treatments out there, which seem to be the only recyclable options. Maybe even just a hard bar of toothpaste you wet and rub your toothbrush along to get a decent foam like a bar of soap. Also, is there any way to make a bamboo replacement head for my electric toothbrush?
Shampoo and conditioner in bars would be great too.

Hi. There is one thing I have made that I find very useful. I like sewing, I have to do laundry. When some items are included in the tub they get tangled up, so I made cotton bags with a draw-string opening to use for some items like stockings, socks, bras and belts made of fabric. Also I made bags for Christmas gifts years ago, and the recipients still use them for shoe bags, shopping and carrying small items. The bags are made of cotton and the draw-string is simply string and I use a slip-knot to fasten it. It is easy to tie and easy to pull apart to open it. The bags are about 12 – 15 inches long by about 7 inches deep. The top is folded over about 1 inch and has a button hole to thread the string through. The bags can, of course be made in any size. The idea is mine alone and it started when I wanted to make bags for gifts instead of wrapping gifts in paper that would be discarded. I hav e also made shopping bags of stronger material, with handles for carrying. These bags are good for the environment, light and useful.
Yours
Adena Trevor

1. Your contest rules most likely have an incorrect date (Jan 2019-> I’m guessing you mean 2020). You should start a shoe line that uses exclusively repurposed tires as tread and call them “Retreads”. Contact me further for discussion and I’ve got oodles of great ideas. I’m smart as they come and clever and creative as you cannot imagine. I also was titled an Environment Expert by the NJ Department of Education. Public schools are instilled and institutionalizing wretched behaviors in their students by the disposable lunch room place settings! This is THEIR future the schools are teaching them to DESTROY!

An oven, to fridge/freezer to microwave "TV tray" for busy people that want to eat healthy. It could have removable compartments to separate the cold portions from those that need to be heated. It would need to be leak resistant. Meals could be preped for a few days at a time and save time when packing lunches or making dinners for a busy soccer mom.

2. hair conditioner in bar form -- that actually works! (I have long, fine hair)
3. I love the dish soap concentrate -- in plastic-free dispensers, no less! Any other similar concentrates would be great

I would like someone to develop a database for stores that carry products in glass containers or who have refillable capabilities. For example, I have not been able to find honey in anything except a plastic container within a 30 mile radius of my home. If I could check online I would be able to plan my trips to the closest stores for what I need.

I’ve been thinking of a waxed canvas “plogging” bag with two inner sections:1 for trash & 1 for recycling. It would wear like a messenger bag. Plogging was made popular in Sweden & basically means jogging (or walking) while picking up trash. Healthy on 2 counts: for the person as well as the environment.

I am thinking that a plastic-free concentrated cleaner for laminate and wood floors might be a good idea. The competition would be with DIY formulas. I often make my own but the "recipes" call for vinegar, and I don't like the smell even though it evaporates quickly. Some healthy products on the market still come in plastic bottles.

I think the best products right now should be more household items. The personal ones, like shampoo, deodorant, etc. can wait. Others do that but no one carries a full line of soaps, containers, etc. for general use. The other items can be added later (which also give more time for development, which I would expect to take longer because of individual needs; Like skin type, hair type, etc.) That's my 2 cents.....

We love your Etee wraps and haven’t needed to replace them since our first purchase. Wonderful!
One particular idea that would be a game changer for us- I still need to use large zip lock bags/baggies for countless things, though I wash/rinse thoroughly and reuse. I can barely stand to see them in my refrigerator/pantry/laundry and would love Etee to create an alternative. Just a hope!

Every spring, nurseries produce thousands of plastic pots for new plants. A sturdy, eventually, compostable (maybe coconut fibre) pot would be nice. Not all retailers take the pots back. The coconut fibre could be used in gardens for water retention during dry spells.
