What Should we do with our Dishwasher Detergent?

So, there appears to be a link between rinse aids and chronic inflammatory diseases.

Our detergent doesn't have a rinse aid, plastic and unnecessary water, BUT, it's our worst reviewed product, and it may be because we DON'T have a rinse aid....  in fact, before this study came out, we developed another formula with a rinse aid.

What should we do?

A) Stop exploring a rinse aid and suggest customers use vinegar with our detergent (which means another plastic bottle to store the vinegar and knowing vinegar isn't as effective)?

B) Continue exploring alternative rinse aids and cleaning options, knowing that the 'alternatives' often (but not always) cause the same issues because they are new and haven't been tested yet?

C) Wave the white flag and decide our detergent is what it is - it works for a number of people, but not everyone - and in time we'll find a better option?

  • I’m not sure what you should do, but I do have to say that I am not thrilled with the dishwasher detergent. I use several of your products and are happy with them. But I have been noticing that my dishes don’t always get clean.

  • I’m new to etee, and have used the dishwashing detergent 3-4 times. It’s funny that you would write today as this morning I noticed residue on my glasses.

I appreciate your approach. I’d vote to continue with what you have, but keep looking for other solutions to make the dishes cleaner, with less residue.
    Thanks,
    Tom

  • A) Stop exploring a rinse aid and suggest customers use vinegar with our detergent (if they have an issue)
Hint: some white vinegar is sold in glass bottles, e.g. Heinz. But I don’t see a need to use it.

  • Better rinse aid. Vinegar while might be good as a rinse aide, it can cause parts in a dishwasher to break down. Many reports from appliance techs show vinegar is not good for them.
I’m concerned about the reports linking rinse aid to health issues. So I understand how hard this is.

  • I must say I was really disappointed with the dishwasher detergent. It definetly leaves a film on my dishes and I use vinegar as a rinse aid. Im not sure what to do with the rest of the bag but I vote for keep testing

  • Do BOTH A&B!
Inform people about the option of using vinegar AND never stop trying to improve the product.

What about adding DRIED VINEGAR to the product? If the dried vinegar is already added to the product people will not have to be trying to get rid of the vinegar plastic containers.

  • Your detergent works fine for me, but if the majority of people feel they need something better, I’m sure someone as innovative as you will figure it out. I had dinner guests last night and I think I turned them on to your dishwashing liquid and hand soap. Trying hard to get people off plastic. Keep up the good work.

  • First, your transparency is stunning. Thank you.
Second, what are you currently using on your dishes? I can’t abide the smell of anything, but my elderly mother refuses to be happy with any "natural " products. My “compromise” is Sunlight. I still have to hand-wash any glassware I use because I can’t stand the smell.
Third, isn’t it possible to source vinegar in glass or in bulk (if in urban areas) maybe someone could network and connect urban customers to local sources for that option while you do further product development on an improved detergent OR stick with what you have and maybe we not be so damned lazy and run a 1/4 inch of water in the sink, scrape the dish scraps into the compost, dip into the sink, and load the dishwasher.
Can’t we put just an iota of effort into this instead of expecting P&G "miracles?
Just a rambling, frustrated jumble of thoughts…

  • We have only recently started using etee dishwasher detergent. Before that, we were using Cascade and we had run out of rinse aid that came with our new dishwasher. We had a lot of watermarks without the rinse aid, so I started adding a shot glass filled with vinegar to the topmost rack and it seemed to help somewhat. We finished the Cascade and switched to etee and so far, I love it. There’s less spotting that we had with Cascade and vinegar; we have maybe one or two spoons that don’t look completely clean, but basically, I’m happy with the etee as is. I think I’m inclined to go with option C. Thanks for your efforts and great products!

  • save everyone money and headache: stop using rinse aud and just use distilled vinegar, it works!
And if you share this idea without monetizing it you will be the shiny hero!
